Tomas Gabzdil Libertiny built a glass vitrine and suspended this martyred figure in the middle. 40,000 worker bees were then released over the course of the event so that a wax honeycomb structure was created over the figure. The red pigment color comes from the fact that Libertiny tinted the entire honeycomb structure red. Representing flesh and blood, the work comes to signify “the toil of everyday duty…masked by the hope of eternal rest in an after-life promised by the believer.”
Normally, I find this sort of thing annoyingly pretentious, but I actually like how this turned out.
